A Festive Kitchen

This Kitchen is vibrant. Just like our client. Bubbly, refreshing, ready for anything.

When a client is always on the verge of a giggle the surroundings need to keep pace. Coral juxtaposes Caribbean blues, wide stripes mimic beach umbrellas, colorful stacks of towels and mugs are relaxed and always at the ready. The layout welcomes homework and guests and an ample island invites helpers. Views of the valley from the kitchen sink allow momentary pauses of calm.

For this project, a two-story wall anchors the space. But how to keep it from looming over the chef? Invite it into the design! We striped the back wall in calming colors of watery blues and wet sand, pulled from the island countertop – a stunning quartzite in its own right.

In lieu of open shelves, open cabinets are used instead – the perfect spot to showcase stacked mixing bowls, favorite cookbooks, original artwork and the like. A corner drawer beneath the mugs is filled with a host of favorite teas.

Crafting supplies are close at hand at the peninsula, keeping younger family members creative and happy. Why not math answers in an array of colors?

Opposite the sink-with-a-view is the heart of the kitchen. Pantry cabinets are full height and ample keeping dry stores located near the refrigerator and freezer. A built-in microwave sits beneath a built-in coffee maker – an excellent choice for those who believe coffee is a food group. And a tall vertical pull-out tucked in the corner stows oils and vinegars, spices and extracts, all within arm’s reach. Everything a home cook needs is in close proximity.

Storage abounds at the island with drawers for dinnerware and place settings, towels and hot pads, pots, pans, and lids.

How fun to work in a space that’s already having a ball!
