Laundry room and mudroom with stainless steel worktable and basin sink sink

 A Collection of Rooms

What do you do when you love a house so much you still buy it, even though there is no access between the attached 4-car garage and house proper? And the separate single-car garage that does have access has no driveway leading to its ample door? The Laundry Room is too small and you yearn for a bedroom on the main level? You let your imagination run wild! That’s what you do!

We begin in the former guest bedroom - now a sun-filled Laundry Room. Tile floor planks replace carpet and built-in banquettes and bookshelves add display. Basket fixtures play up the whimsy and play off the fabric motifs used. A restaurant style stainless-steel table makes sorting socks - dare I say, enjoyable? Flowers are potted, gifts are wrapped, shirts are folded. The Mud Room beyond the new barn door - re-purposed from a pair of closet doors, is for washing up after time spent in the stables. Perfect before traipsing through the house.

Next up is the TV Den, formerly the Laundry Room. Countertops and upper cabinets give way to the perfect spot for a makeup vanity and comfy reading chair. And built-in cabinetry sits where washers and dryers once stood. This is the perfect retreat in the middle of the night for a little reading or movie watching and is only steps away from the new Primary Bedroom. Bronze grass cloth and fanciful birds at the ceiling keep the space enchanting and cozy. And the lushest velvet of midnight blue and bronze shades the window.

The new main level Primary Bedroom suite is a simple door swing away from the TV Den. Now a sofa takes up residence in the alcove, backed by swaths of custom satin drapery. Views to the terraces and pond beyond can be taken in from either the sofa or the bed - views formerly lost when the room was more of a catch all space off the single car garage. A small writing desk and chair offer the perfect spot for reflection. But around the corner is the biggest transformation yet!

This single car garage, quirky in its’ own right as no driveway leads to it, is now a fabulous Ensuite Bathroom with Closet beyond. The garage door is infilled and one would never know it had ever existed - whether outside or in. An ample closet system takes the place of the former garage door end while the vanity and wet room now take the place of lawn mowers and snow blowers. The bathroom features his and her vanities with mirrors that soar in height. An original watercolor by Richard Porterfield is set low to be easily enjoyed. Separate water closet and a wet room with separate shower heads and a drop-in tub finish the layout. Carved tile and faceted iridized mosaics make the space a pleasure to discover each morning. And the heated tile floors - sublime.
